traveling etiquiette

(Drew and Sammy in their traveling outfits)

It has recently come to my attention that everyone has not been briefed on the rules of travel etiquette. In order to not assume that I know all the rules, I would like to ask our faithful readers to interject their opinions on this matter.

I have recently found out that not everyone unpacks their suitcases the same day they get home as I do. Really? I believe that I even heard that some of the suitcases lingered with dirty laundry for 6 days (this person will remain nameless...you know why you are)without the zipper being pulled back to assess the potential work ahead.

Please give us your thoughts on when a suitcase should be unpacked upon returning from a trip. I may be bordering on the OCD side of the argument, but others may be teetering off the NOCD (No OCD).

I believe that this falls in the "there's more than one way to skin a cat" category. I am usually so worn out after travel that I can't even think about unpacking, even though I admire you early unpackers. I do unzip the suitcase, but only because there are things inside that I need. Travel wears me out...even more as the years go by! I have been known to take two or three days to get the suitcase emptied and back in the closet where it belongs. Do you still love me? Am I still your favorite mother in law???

Depends on the time of day that I get home. If it's nighttime, then no, I let it go until the next day. But I can't stand having to search around for things, so yeah, I am usually unpacked within 24 hours of arriving home. Oh, and I guess I really don't have enough clothes to go six days without doing laundry, for whoever your namesless non-unpacker is!

P.S. Is that an inherited outfit? Cause Cole and Mason had the same shirt/romper combo. Although now I'm thinking Cole's was Size 18m...

Not only do I unpack right away but I start the laundry before all the suitcases are even all gathered...... I hope the OCD doesn't come from me......

What!!!! Someone didn't unpack their bag for 6 days? It must have been an obstacle in the bedroom--a weeks worth of miscellaneous household items piling up on top of the still unopened vault which harbored any number of dirty toddler paraphernalia which when combined with sand, warmth, and no light turned into an unrecognizable stain that will never again be removed. But hey, I wouldn't know anything about that.

Well, I certainly didn't inherit the OCD... I guess that is why my house is never as clean as yours or moms! I totally leave my suitcase out for a while. I'm like Sharon, I am too tired to unpack after traveling. Plus I am still enjoying the memories of the trip and don't want to ruin it with chores of unpacking and laundry. However, I most definitely open it and get things I need out of it. Everything doesn't usually get unpacked until I get around to doing laundry. I wish I was more like you and got it done right away so it didn't sit there staring at me, to unpack it! However, your post motivated me to unpack right away last night, when we got home from michigan.

If it were up to me, I probably would let the suitcase sit for days and days. It's not up to me though. At our house, the first thing that we do is to distribute the suitcases to their proper rooms and then completely unpack the suitcases before we do anything else. I have learned a lot from Amanda. It certainly is nice to have things done before we move to the recovery phase.

You know my answer...unpack and get the laundry going. Unless it's late at night, then I will unpack a little (the necessities) and do the rest in the morning. Is there any other kind of etiquiette that we are going to be asked about...;) Ha, ha.
